You really got a sense of the king that Arthur's going to be in this episode as well. Especially with in the scene...
Uther: I gave you a direct order.
Arthur: The people cannot afford to pay the tax.
Lady Catrina: Don't tell me you're naive enough to take them at their word?
Arthur: We have their loyalty, their goodwill. Do not forsake that by making unreasonable demands.
Lady Catrina: Is it so unreasonable for a king to expect his subjects to obey him?
Arthur: They'll starve.
Uther: Nonsense. You've grown too soft. Remember, these are your subjects, not your friends.
Arthur: Why can't they be both?
Uther: Because we rule the people, not the other way round.
Arthur: I think you're wrong.
Uther: I beg your pardon?
Arthur: I said you're wrong. Without the people, there is no Camelot. We're as much their servant as they are ours.
I wanted to cheer him on, I was so proud of him! Arthur will make a great king some day...well, obviously, but I think this is the first time we really see him grasping what that means.

wow you wrote that word for word. thanks - great reading it again. and obviously had to see that little titbit on iplayer again. as well as under the bed and hug scenes, oh and gwen arthur scene. (had to look away for most of the rest - watch merlin secrets and magic!)

Ahaha, I wish...but alas if they're heavily hinting that his secret's going to be discovered...they're probably going to throw in some obnoxious plot device that will save the day, and aquit Merlin without any further suspicion. I feel like this whole series so far has been me sitting "Oh would you just FIGURE IT OUT ALREADY!"...in a loving way of course.

just watched the witchfinder episode - absolutely brilliant. And the next episode looks even better. Can't give anything away because I'll ruin it for you - I was on the edge of my seat the whole time! Love love loved it!

Watched it! Loved it!...can't wait for the next installment (as usual)....tee hee.
I was a bit disapointed, that Merlin wasn't the center of suspicions for long, but my disapointed quickly disapaited in the absolute ingenious that was Gaius's character in this episode. Especially because we know Gaius to be more of the behind the scenes, cowardly figure (slightly debunked at the end of season 1, but still semi-present)...it was wonderful to see him so nobally defending both Merlin and Morgana with his life. That scene at the end where Uther goes to him with the "hurt puppy" expression and Gaius refuses to accept his apology was long awaited, but still brilliant. I literally shouted "Go Gaius!" at my computer screen much to the confused amusement of the rest of my household.
Random note, but I'm glad that they finally clarified the fact that Uther knew Gaius used to practice magic. I always wondered about that. :P
Although I can't wait for next weeks episode I am actually more excited about the episode two weeks in our future...because as rumor has it, Merlin get's himself a girl...which he desperatly needs/deserves. Ah, Colin Morgan, why must you be so adorable. Anyhoo...what do you think, will Arthur suceed in killing Uther? Or is even that too morbid for a so-called "family show".

okay. arthur killing uther. not gonna happen (although i wish it would). arthur is the nobel (gorgeous) decent bloke here, and even when he finds out about uther and his mom and the way uther went on his killing spree with all the magic people, arthur will still control himself in the end. In the preview when we see arthur stick the sword near uther's throat, probably after that clip he takes it away and says some very exceptional speech about lack of trust etc.
when will arthur find out about merlin already? if i had my way it would be this coming episode, after uther's killing off the magicians/witches just because of his wife's death, then arhtur finds out about merlin and then he understands why merlin kept it secret.
merlin gets a girlfriend in 2 weeks? in the original clip preview before series 2 began, we see merlin crying whilst kissing a black-headed lady. is it morgana? i wish it was. and yeah, merlin is just super cute!

I just saw the 2 part episode. I was laughing so hard. I hated the troll - she was disgusting. But, the looks Arthur kept giving Merlin, esp with his spying on here, was just so funny! I also liked seeing Uther smile.

yeah i have to say - loved the episodes minus the troll. i had to turn away i felt so sick.
the rest was brilliant. loads of cool arthur merlin moments! Morgana's face half the time was pretty fun!
