Swooking?

A story of community service at our local library!

So the library in my town has a book sale every 6 months using books that people donate to raise money for new books. The sale usually consists for two days, and over 1,000,000 books get sold. But what happens to all the unsold ones?

Because I'm lazy, just like every other guy my age, i thought that this library sale would be a great place to volunteer and get some community service hours towards my deploma. The library is always looking for volunteers, so I got in no problem.

The day goes well, all I'm really made to do is carry huge boxes of books from the library basement up to the front lawn for selling. ADDED BONUS -- I also got a workout. But thats not why you're reading this.

All is going well until the end of the day, when the people stop arriving and its time for the sale to end. I had just gotten off a double shift of carting books from the basement, so I was extremely tired. Complaining to my "boss" that I didn't want to carry all the unsold books back into the library basement because I was tired really got him angry. He told me to take care of the books however I felt necessary and then he stormed off in his car.

So its just me, two other guys who need community service hours, and this huge mountain of books. A thought occurs to me: why not go for a swim? The three of us took the books, make them into a quick pile, and started jumping and swimming in all the unsold books. It was sooooooo fun, you can't even imagine.

After about an hour or so of said "swooking" as the three of us had agreed to call it, we got our act together, and instead of carrying the books back down to the basement, we called up our parents and loaded most of the books into their cars. We went to the nearby childrens hospital and gave each and every kid in there a book to read. The looks on their faces was priceless, I'll remember it forever.

So who's to say that you can't have your cake and eat it too?

I frequent such sales as a customer but would never volunteer for one for that reason.
