heres all of chapter 2:
Chapter 2
The party was the following day and Alice was getting ready. She put on a t-shirt and jeans and put on a baseball cap to hide her ears. She had been doing this since she got home the day before. Then her cell phone rang and she answered it right away, knowing who it was. “Hey, Seth,” she said.
“Hey, Alice. We’re waiting for you outside. Are you ready?”
“Yeah. I’ll be right there.” she hurried down the stairs and outside, only to see a van full of kids, eager to get to the party. Alice smiled and hurried and got in, sitting between Seth and Ashley. Alex was driving. “Okay, this was the last stop so is everybody ready?” he asked.
“HECK YEAH!!!!!” everyone shouted.
“Then lets go!”
When they got to the beach, everyone hurried out of the van and went to find a place to set all their stuff down. Then they all went to go swim. Alice, Seth, and Alex were left behind at the van.
“Wow, they sure went off in a hurry.” Alex smiled. They started walking towards the beach, and sat on they’re towels on the sand.
“Aren’t you two going to go swim?” Alex asked as he sat next to Alice.
“Uh, no,” Alice and Seth said at the same time.
“Why not?”
“Just because I don’t feel like swimming right now,” Alice said.
“And why are you so bundled up?”
Before Alice could answer Seth spoke, “well it is kind of cold out. The clouds are coming in.”
They looked at the sky. “Your right,” Alex said. “We might not stay here too long then.”
“Hey, Alex!” a girl called from a volleyball net. “Come play with us, we know you’re the best volleyball player at school!”
Alex stood up and walked to the girl by the net.
“And that’s not the only kind of player he is,” Seth whispered.
“Yes, indeed,” a voice said from behind them. They turned only to see Jerith standing behind them.
“Hello there Alice,” he said in a kind, cheerful voice.
“Hi,” she said back, not as cheerfully.
“Hello Seth,” he said in a mean voice.
“Hi,” Seth said in the same tone.
“Aren’t you going to swim, Alice? I’d love to see you in a swimsuit,” Jerith said, his eyes sparkling like stars on a clear night.
“You know very well why I’m not going to swim!” Alice nearly shouted back at him.
“You are such a pervert,” Seth said.
“Hm? Do not call me that Seth.”
“But its true you perv,” Alice said.
“Do not call me that, Alice. You are to call me Master.”
“How about Perverted Master?”
Seth laughed. “Shut it!” Jerith said in a voice that made them both quiet. “I hear something.” Jerith got up and went toward the trees at the edge of a forest.
“I think I hear it too,” Alice said and went after him.
“What is it?” Seth asked and followed.
“I’m not sure.” Jerith called back to them. They came into the forest and stood next to him. “But I think it might be…”
Something sprang out at them. Alice screamed as it jumped on top of her and her hat fell off. To reveal her cat ears.
“I knew I sensed a pretty kitty here,” he said and something moved back and forth behind him. His tail! This is the Cheshire Cat!
“Good job, Alice!” Seth said. The cat turned and looked at him.
“Is this your toy? He is a bird,” the cat asked turning back to Alice who was still underneath him.
“Toy?!” Seth asked and looked at Alice.
“Uh-yes,” Alice answered and tried to get from under him. He got off and smiled showing his cat-like fangs. Then she noticed that Jerith was gone.
“Where’s Jerith?” Alice asked.
“Huh?” Seth looked around. “I don’t know. He was here a minute ago.”
“So, your name is Alice?” the cat said. “Get your toy and lets go.”
“Huh? But I thought Jerith said…” there was a sudden voice inside her head.
Go with him. Me and some others will come rescue you in a little while, Jerith said in her mind.
How long will it take? she thought back.
We’re not sure. Just go!
“What the…? Jerith?” Seth said.
“Don’t worry about it,” Alice said. “Now come on my little toy.”
Seth’s eyes sparkled. “Alright then.” he smiled.
Something like a dark hole appeared in front of them. “Grab my arms and lets go,” the cat told them. They did, and suddenly they were sucked inside and sent to another world.
The Cheshire Cat grabbed Alice before she fell. Seth landed hard on the floor beside them. “Ouch,” he said, rubbing his side.
“Now you, little bird toy, can go in the cage,” the cat said and all of a sudden Seth was lifted up into a golden cage that was way up in a corner of the room.
The room looked ordinary, at least a little.
There were shelves full of books and cat toys strewn all over the floor. There were a few mirrors on the walls. Alice picked up one of the toys. It was a ball of yarn. She tossed it in her hands. The Cheshire Cat came over and grabbed around the waist, causing her to drop the yarn, sending it rolling across the floor. He started growling.
“What is it?” Alice asked.
“Unwanted visitors…” he said through clenched teeth.
“Is it-” Alice started but was abruptly cut off because there was a sudden light across the room. Three people appeared from the light and then it disappeared. Alice recognized the first one.
“Hello, Cheshire Cat,” Jerith said. The cat growled back at him.
“Well that wasn’t a very nice greeting. Oh well, it doesn’t matter anyway since we have finally found your hideout.” Jerith smiled. “Alice come over here.”
The cat tightened its grip on her. “I wont give up what is rightfully mine. I found her, so I get her,” he said.
“Well then,” Jerith said. “We’ll just have to this the hard then.” he snapped his fingers and the back of Alice’s neck started burning. She touched it.
“What the-?” The Cheshire Cat started but then he saw the mark. “Crap…” was all he said.
“Yes, Cat. She is rightfully MINE. Not yours. I already own her.” Jerith snapped his fingers again and the Cat let go sharply. “So now, for all that you have done to the humans, you shall be punished.” the two guys standing next to Jerith started running at the Cat. Alice froze. “Wha-? No it wasn’t me! I swear-!” Jerith suddenly appeared beside Alice and pulled her away from them. The two guys had swords now and they sliced the Cat. The Cat became a black shadow, then disappeared. The burning on Alice’s neck stopped.
“Well, that was easy,” one of the guys said. Alice unfroze and her ears perked up. “Who are you guys?” she asked the two guys as they walked over to them.
They both smiled at her. “I’m Erick,” the dark-haired guy said.
“And I’m Alec.” they put their swords away.
“Lets go then,” Jerith said.
“Hey!” Seth shouted from the cage. “What about me?”
“What about you?” Jerith said mockingly. Alice sighed.
“Just get him out of there,” she said.
“Fine.” Jerith waved his hand toward the cage and it opened. Seth’s wings spread out and tore the back of his shirt. He flew gracefully out of the cage and landed right next to Alice. He folded his wings back up inside his shirt and out the harness back on.
“Now lets get of here.”
Jerith held up his hand and a light appeared. Then they were suddenly in the forest again.
“Alice,” Jerith turned to her.
“Yes?” she said.
“Tonight is your last night here in the human world. Tonight at midnight, I will come and take you and Seth to our world. I know that you have special powers. You were adopted right?”
Alice was startled by his sudden question. “Yes,” she said slowly.
He smiled. “Its alright. All of us in Ignia know all about your real parents. They were great sorcerers of magic.”
“Ignia?”
“Yes, that is the name of our world. But tonight at midnight, be ready to leave this world, because you may never come back.”
But that’s not enough time!” Alice said. Then all of a sudden they heard voices. Alice turned toward the noise. “Its our friends,” Seth said and looked at her. “Lets go.”
“Wait, Jerith-” she turned but Jerith and the other two were gone.
“Alice! Seth! There you are! We’ve been looking all over for you! Where were you?” Alex shouted and hurried over to them.
“Um, we just went for a walk,” Alice said quickly.
“Yeah,” Seth continued. “But then we got kind of lost so…”
“What were you two doing while you were lost?” a girl came up behind Alex.
Alex narrowed his eyes at Seth. “Uh, we didn’t do anything! Really!”
“You better not have,” Alex said sharply. Just then, Alice remembered something.
“Seth,” she whispered. “Your shirt.”
“Crap,” he said.
“Don’t worry. I brought my sweatshirt but its over by the rest of our stuff.”
“What are two whispering about?” Alex asked and walked over to stand right between Alice and Seth.
“Um,” Alice said. “We were… wondering what time it is, but neither of us have a watch.”
“Oh, well its time to leave actually.”
“Okay then.” Alex put his arm around Alice’s waist and started pulling her back to the van. “Wait, Seth and I need to grab our things.”
“Seth can go get them by himself.”
“But-”
“Alice,” Seth said kindly. “Its alright. I can go get them myself.” Seth went and got their things. When Alice, Alex, and a few other people approached the van, three people appeared, riding on motorcycles.
“Need a ride?” the one in the middle asked Alice. She recognized him right away. It was Jerith, Erik, and Alec. She smiled. “Alright, then.”
Seth came back just then and saw the three on the motorcycles. “What-?” he said but Jerith cut him off. “You need a ride. Isn’t that right, Alice?”
“Yes,” she said.
“Wait,” Alex said. “How do you know her name?”
“Well, she’s my cousin, you see,” Jerith lied. “My brothers and I are in town for the weekend. Her parents told us that she was here at the beach.” he smiled. “So if you don’t mind, I’m giving her a ride.”
“Seth is coming too.” she said.
“Aw but-”
“Seth is coming too,” Alice said flatly.
“Fine. Come on, we have to hurry.” and with that they left. Alice was riding with Jerith (obviously) , and Seth rode with Erik.
“So,” Alice said when they got to her house. “I’m your cousin huh?” she put her hands on her hips.
“Uh,” Jerith stuttered. “It was just a small lie.”
“A small lie? What if he sees us again? And what about the mark on my neck? What then? Hm?”
“Oh, don’t worry. After midnight you wont ever see any of them ever again.”
“You’re a horrible guy.”
“No, I’m just following the rules, my little kitty cat.” he took off her hat.
“Hey!” she said. “Oh, that’s right. Change me back.”
“What? No. your too cute like that.”
“Change. Me. Back. Right. Now.”
“Fine. But only if you kiss me.”
“What-?” but Jerith pulled her to him and kissed her. A few seconds later, he let go. Then there was a tingling in her cat ears and tail (which she had tied to her leg to keep it from moving). Then they disappeared.
“See? That wasn’t so bad now was it?”
Alice sighed and went to the house. “I’ll call you five minutes before midnight!” Jerith called to her. She turned.
“Bye, Alice!” Seth said and went home as well. Jerith, Erik, and Alec then vanished.
“Whoa,” she said and hurried into the house up to her room.
